Director Brian De Palma, whose CASUALTIES OF WAR addressed a horrific tragedy that occurred during the Vietnam war, turns his attention to Iraq with an unfortunately similar tale. Inspired by true events, REDACTED follows a group of soldiers who are stationed at a checkpoint in Iraq. Angel Salazar (Izzy Diaz) is an aspiring filmmaker who is intent on capturing his experience on videotape. His fellow soldiers--Reno Flake (Patrick Carroll), Lawyer McCoy (Rob Devaney), and Gabe Blix (Kel O’Neill)--seem to be surprisingly well-adjusted at first, but it isn’t long before their true colors come through. When Reno decides to get drunk and harass an Iraqi family, the situation devolves into rape and murder, putting an incredible strain on Lawyer, who wants to expose Reno but doesn’t want to rat out a fellow soldier. In making REDACTED, De Palma embraced the various forms of technology that have allowed soldiers to connect with Americans back home: video cameras, blogs, YouTube, etc. The result is a fictional documentary that feels immediate and experimental, incorporating first-person video perspectives, security cameras, and a variety of other techniques to tell its tragic tale. De Palma is clearly unhappy with the developments in Iraq, and he wants the world to know that he doesn’t support the war. REDACTED will certainly never be misconstrued as a pro-war film. This is a challenging work that attacks the very nature of the American presence in Iraq.

Leading an all-star comedy cast, Martin Lawrence is talk-show sensation RJ Stevens, who left behind his modest Southern upbringing and family name to transform into a self-help guru dispensing his "Team of Me" philosophy to millions of adoring fans. WANT blood. See blood. And how? Vietnam war veteran John Rambo returns on a rescue mission, this time in Myanmar, and spills guts in all his former glory. If you pay close attention, you can even catch a head been blown away, a body splitting into two and a stomach being sliced to bring out the insides. All this bloodletting obviously is orchestrated by our hero who doesn’t twitch a facial muscle nore register a flicker on his brow. Ekdum bindaas!
For all those who got hooked on to Rambo’s exploits in First Blood , his Fourth Blood heroics may bring back nostalgic memories of a cold and clinical killing machine that killed for country, honour, justice and the rest. This time, he comes back from semi-retirement, as he did in the recent Rocky film, and joins a bunch of Americans who want to supply relief to an endangered tribe, hounded by the military junta. But that’s just a pretext for our all-American hero to create an All-American film where the Myanmar natives are ruthless and mean and the bunch of white guys are heroes and vigilantes. And the white woman? Ah well, she’s meant to be held captive and wail through the violence.
Forget the old-fashioned story-line. The Rambo franchise is only meant to make you dizzy about dishum-dishum . It does.

Halla Bol movie
Rajkumar Santoshi’s HALLA BOL is a clone of his earlier hit film DAMINI. If you have seen the Sunny Deol-starrer, you know what to expect here. But then DAMINI was in a different league and was, so to speak, ahead of its time. Good performances, tight script and brilliant courtroom scenes. Sadly the same cannot be said here.

The script is old. Very old. And you can predict most of the twists because you have seen it unfold a number of times on the big screen. So when the victim’s sister does a volte-face in a packed courtroom, you are not surprised. You are not surprised even when you learn the reason. As for the scene on the Persian rug where the film’s protagonist Ajay Devgan relieves himself, you almost implore him to do it!!!!
HALLA BOL is all about a small town boy who dreams of making it big in Bollywood. Ashfaque (Ajay Devgan) who later has a screen name, Sameer Khan, hits the jackpot. What values he stood for earlier, he conveniently forgets in the quest of moving up the popularity charts. But when he is a witness to the murder of a girl in cold blood in a night club, things change. Reluctant at first, he later relents and takes on the might of the powers that be, who play every trick in the book to get the accused freed.
